Lakas and the Makibaka Hotel

I ran into Tony Robles a couple weeks ago, and he informed me that his new children's book is out, Lakas and the Makibaka Hotel. Last year, I brought Tony into my Filipino-American literature class at U.C. Berkeley, where we discussed his poetry and his first children's book, Lakas and the Manilatown Fish. Tony has a wonderful presence in the classroom that's hard to describe; well, he's just real, you know? He inspires trust. My students just loved him. I'm glad to see this second book in print.
