A Book of Her Own

Leny Mendoza Strobel's beautiful A Book of Her Own: Words and Images to Honor the Babaylan came out last year, but certainly deserves continuing attention, and so I post it here, along with links to articles here and here (the latter a review by Allan Gabboro).

"Strobel’s book is full of exquisite poetry and moving ruminations that reflect her intrepid endeavor to recover her postcolonial self. If one is to go by what and how she writes in “A Book of Her Own,” then it is safe to say that she has succeeded for the most part in finding her self, despite the “temptation to succumb to one’s inner postcolonial angst and fear.” Strobel now wants other Filipinos to follow her example and conduct their own meaningful search for the hidden subjective voice emanating from their authentic identity. That unique voice strips away colonial misconceptions and guides Filipinos into an enriching unity with their individual and collective selves." -- Allan Gabboro

and More....

...and another welcome change, is that The First Hay(na)ku Anthology is close to selling out its first edition! That's a nearly sold out edition in less than six months after publication, baby! Especially for a book that was co-edited in California and Australia, and co-published by presses in Finland and California. So now the question is, second printing? Or...a second anthology? Maybe both? What a nice proposition to contemplate...

...and More Changes

...and the other change is that I'm now a content editor for a large publishing company. It is quite a difference for me as I've been primarily free-lancing for some time. However, I don't want to stop free-lancing altogether, because I wasn't kidding when I wrote (see above) that editing book manuscripts has been an adventure for me, an occupation that allows me to meet interesting people, and to inhabit other exciting and mysterious worlds. So I'll be retaining no more than two book clients at a time, and continuing to do smaller-scale editing work. Just so ya know...

Changes

Michael Fink (see below) has pulled the Found Diary of Avery Alexander Meyer offline. In its place he has started a new blog, Wry Progress, and is working on the radio script, which looks to be lengthy.
